Architects’ Journal: reports paint bleak industry picture, but UK hotel sector relatively strong

New data from the RIBA, construction sector analyst Glenigan and the British Property Federation show a decline in residential construction, especially build-to-rent, despite forecasts that 2025 would be a year of recovery for the industry.

However, offices, hotels and leisure buildings, and industrial construction all saw a significant rise in project starts in 2025, and industry trends analyst Glenigan predicts a ‘phoenix moment’, forecasting 17% growth in 2026, citing electricity networks, renewable power projects and water industry investment as key drivers of upwards momentum.
