Update on UK digital Visa system – replacement of physical immigration documents

At the end of 2024 the UK government stopped issuing physical immigration documents such as Biometric Residence Permits and visa vignettes.

Instead immigration status will be recorded electronically as e-Visas linked to an individual’s travel document, as part of the broader effort to streamline the immigration process and make it more efficient.

All individuals with existing immigration documents will need to create a UKVI account to access their eVisa details, and in case of problems using the system, a grace period has been extended to 1st June 2025 to ensure a smooth adaptation to the new digital system.
