Placemakr launches apartment-style pop-up hotel in Washington, D.C.

Hospitality and multifamily operator Placemakr has launched a pop-up hotel offering apartment-style accommodations with hotel-level service in a mixed-use community in Washington, D.C.’s Buzzard Point neighborhood.

The concept offers guests access to the multifamily buildings’ on-site amenities, including gym, sauna and outdoor workout spaces, coworking space, lounge areas, a game room with billiards and indoor and outdoor terraces with firepits.

Another of the company’s properties, in Pittsburgh, which opened in January, offers a mix of residential units and short-term lodging in response to a surge in demand for flex-living solutions. It is part of the trend towards travellers increasingly seeking flexible, upscale long-term accommodations, which has led to hotel chains such as Marriott inking a strategic licensing agreement with Sonder Holdings that added 9,000 rooms primarily comprising apartment-style accommodations last year.
